Volunteer Services

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” -Mahatma Gandhi

Rock River Center welcomes volunteers of all ages. Our goal is to make volunteering a positiveexperience, while helping the agency meet the needs of older adults and families.

All individuals are asked to complete an application and provide references. A screening processinsures the safety of those we serve; and all volunteers, acting upon agency direction, are provided coverage under the agency liability policy. Job descriptions are provided. With the help of volunteers, Rock River Center is able to assist more than 3000 older adults each year.

Whether you are able to give one hour per week or one hour per month, we have a volunteer position for you!
Various current volunteer opportunities:

Reception & Office Aides - These priceless volunteers provide office support, with a smile, by answering phones, greeting visitors, and taking registrations.

Newsletter assembly - With more than 50 volunteers, come help prepare the bi-monthly newsletter for mailing. Make new friends, too!

Boot Scootin' Seniors - A really fun and active group! This group provides entertainment at area
long term care facilities and other locations.

Fundraisers - Our annual fundraisers require the services of our volunteers in many ways. Make sure you ask about them.

Special projects - We are always looking for volunteers to assist us in teaching classes, decorating, parties, mailings, etc. Stop by and let's talk!

How You Can Help

Over the past three decades, Americans 65 or older increased a staggering 74 percent! This increase pales in comparison to the numbers of Baby Boomers aging. The ability for these ever increasing numbers of older adults to remain independent, active and vital members of their communities depends greatly on the range of programs and opportunities available to them.

With financial and volunteer support, Rock River Center is preparing to meet the needs—and to be the lead social service agency in Ogle County committed to improving the quality of life for older adults. Your support, financially and/or as a volunteer, is deeply appreciated and vital to meeting the needs, while maintaining standards of excellence.

Area Students Volunteer at Rock River Center

The Rock River Center would like to thank students from two local schools for their recent volunteer efforts.

The Oregon School district sent a group of volunteer students to the Center who spent their time washing windows.

Also, the OCEC’s Chana School sent another group of students who cleaned up the landscaping and spread mulch around the center.

We appreciate their hard work. Thank you and great job!!
