“THE SITUATION ROOM” (FORMERLY “Old News”)–The Situation Room at the Rock River Center meets twice a month throughout the year on the 2nd and 4th Mondays, 10:00 – 11:30 am.  The group usually has 8 to 12 participants, but is open to all RRC members and area history buffs. Guests are welcome and encouraged to attend a trial session. The “Room” is informal, coffee is provided and someone usually brings a treat. The group listens to stories taken for “Old News” prepared and read by Bud Wiener, volunteer leader.  “Old News” is a bi-monthly publication focusing on historical places, people and events in a wide range of dates, and is published in an easy to understand format.

The Situation Room goals are:

  • To gain personal meaning from stories of the past by sharing responses and reactions with the group; by extending the stories via sharing insights and personal experiences related to the stories; and by raising points of interest, questioning, providing related information and sharing personal positions.
  • To provide a comfortable, stimulating atmosphere for engaging in learning about the world of yesterday.
