Congratulations Rock River Center on
42 Years of Service to Ogle County Residents!

Though the name Rock River Center is a relatively new one, the history of the Center is long. Initially called the Yellow Bird Senior Citizens Drop-in Center in 1975, then later Ogle County Senior Services, the Rock River Center has remained focused on older adults and the services they need to remain healthy in mind, body and spirit while providing a solution to the social isolation of growing population of older adults.

Initially a storefront operation run by volunteers with the goal of providing support to one another and a place to socialize, the Center has grown over the years so that today an Executive Director and 14 staff members work five days a week providing core, quality of life services, such as outreach and referral to families or adults seeking government assistance, Medicare guidance, and other benefits such as prescription assistance, tax preparation, homemaking, meals on wheels, transportation and volunteer opportunities.
Rock River Center is a private not-for-profit organization with servides made available, in part, with funds provided under Title III-B and Title III-E of the Older American Act, GAP filling Funds and the Illinois General Revenue Funds through Northwestern Illinois Area Agency of Aging. Funding for transportation is provided under the State of Illinois Donated Initiative from Title XX of the Social Security Act, through the Illinois Department of Human Services and the Illinois Department of Transportation. Transportation equipment is provided through Section 5310 grant, awarded through the Illinois Department of Transportation. Funding is additionally provided by the United Way of Ogle County, townships and the Ogle County Senior Tax Levy. The significan portion of the budget is derived from indviduals, bequests, memorials and fundraising.
